ANSWERS: How much does it cost to have PicFlips at my event? The PicFlips Mobile Flipbook Studio is generally charged by the hour. Please visit the Prices page for the most updated information. [back to top] We will generally travel anywhere in driving distance. This includes the Chicagoland area and northern Indiana as well as locations in our home state of Michigan. [back to top] We do charge for travel, but only after the first 30 miles and 30 minutes each way. There is no travel charge to Grand Rapids, MI. Please call Spare Time Events at 616.447.8332 for a price and travel estimate. [back to top] How can I have PicFlips at my event? Call us (616.447.8332) or e-mail us! First, we'll check that your date is available. Then, we will prepare an estimate and contract for you. When you send in your contract and deposit, your date is reserved! Note: If another party inquires about your date after we have discussed it but before you have sent in the contract and deposit, we will attempt to contact you and wait 48 hours before releasing the date. [back to top] What do you need in order to set up at an event? Our minimum requirement is a 10x10 foot area and one standard wall outlet. More space is better, as PicFlips always gathers a large crowd. We can provide our own tables as needed, but we recommend that you provide two tables (at least 6 feet long) with tablecloth/skirting to match the rest of your event. Also, we recommend providing a well-lit area - though our lighting would be sufficient, the flipbooks turn out better when there is more light. If this is an outdoor event, there are other requirements. See "Do you do outdoor events?" [back to top] Yes, we can do and have done outdoor events. However, there will be additional charges if we need to provide our own tent and generator (which we are able to do.) Also, please keep in mind that temperature and weather conditions are out of our control, and that electrical equipment is sensitive to severe extremes of hot, cold, wet, and wind. We will discuss contingency plans ahead of time for outdoor events. [back to top] Can I send you a video clip and have you make it into a flipbook? Unfortunately, we cannot. Because of the unique patent pending process and software, we need to take the video clips ourselves. We think it's much more fun this way, anyhow, don't you? [back to top] Can you send me the video of the flipbook I made at an event? Unfortunately, we cannot. We can, however, send you another flipbook if you order it within 3 months of the day it was made. You will need the original flipbook, not a reprint, for this. (Note: We only guarantee that we can do this within 3 months, but it may be available anyways. It never hurts to call/e-mail!) [back to top] Can I get pre-made flipbooks to give as a favor, gift, or greeting card? Absolutely! Flipbooks are great gifts, save-the-dates, thank-yous, announcements, and more! If you have an idea, run it past us. We will determine the pricing once we have a better idea of what you'd like. [back to top] How long does it take to make a flipbook? In general, it takes about 90 seconds to two minutes to make a flipbook, from making the video to cutting and putting the cover on. With retakes or multiple prints, this can take longer. We do try to keep the line moving when there is a crowd, but are happy to let guests take their time if there is no line. [back to top] How many people can you fit into a flipbook? We haven't counted, but we've fit a LOT of people into flipbooks in the past! It all depends on space and speed. One big limitation is the fact that the flipbooks are only 6-10 seconds long! You may also want to see "Can everyone in my group get a copy of the flipbook?" [back to top] Can everyone in my group get a copy of the flipbook? Yes and No. In general, we will print up to three books per video while there are others waiting to make flipbooks, up to one per person. (We let the group know before they make their flipbook.) We are more than happy to make additional books if there is a lull, or if someone in line uses their time to get a few extra reprints. We just want to ensure that no one has to wait too long for their turn. [back to top] How many flipbooks can you make in an hour? We tend to average about 40 per hour, but this simply an average. Depending on how busy we are, how quickly guests choose their props and how long it takes for them to make their video, this can vary. We do our best to encourage guests to make flipbooks, and to give as many people the chance to make flipbooks as we can. [back to top] How do you manage to make so many books in just one hour? We have a few guidelines that help us keep things moving at an event. First, we will print up to three books per video while there are others waiting to make flipbooks, up to one per person. (We let the group know before they make their flipbook.) We are more than happy to make additional books if there is a lull, or if someone in line uses their time to get a few extra reprints. We just want to ensure that no one has to wait too long for their turn. Secondly, if guests are making videos quicker than we can get them covered (which often happens when there are many groups that want multiple copies), we will hold the line for a few minutes in order to catch up. Generally, one person helps guests while one assembles the flipbooks. Having two people assemble the flipbooks speeds up the process and helps guests waiting for their books to get them even sooner. This even helps guests waiting for their books to get theirs sooner, as the books are assembled in the order that they are printed. Third, toward the end of the event (with about 15-20 minutes left), we will have a "last call". At last call, we will continue to make books, but on a group-by-group basis. This helps us ensure that we will shut down when we are supposed to. Overtime is an option upon request but dependent on the staff working the event and resources available. [back to top]
